Thanksgiving is not traditionally celebrated in Aruba as it is in the United States and Canada. Sinterklaas is a tradition based on Saint Nicholas, who was a patron saint of children, along with his helpers who are called "Pieten" and is celebrated annually on 5th of December.  The previous days of the arrival of Sinterklaas, the kids put out their shoes and if they were nice this year, they receive gifts from Piet and Sinterklaas. A parade takes place where the Pieten hand out candy to the children. In the days leading up to December 5, you can find Sinterklaas—with his long white beard, holy robes, and golden staff—visiting events all over the island with his helpers.
